New clothing discoveries

Thanks to friends at the FBI and BATF, I recently was steered to the 511 clothing line. The 511 all-cotton tactical pants have suddenly become my all-time favorite pants for news field work, and I think I have seven pairs in the closet. You can buy them on line or at uniform stores, and they look great in all situations...classier than jeans and better made than the stuff I'd been buying from places like Cabelas, REI and Duluth trading. And they are sturdy and built to last. Good product. To buy online, see www.511TacticalDirect.com/5.11

Tactical pants seem like something you should wear to singles bars.

"I got my tactical pants on and I gots skilz yo."

They also remind me of a Japanese television show I watched a while back where teenage girls were talking about their "battle panties," special underwear to make the girl feel sexy and confident in the "battle" for boys. If I bought a pair of these, I know I would end up calling them "battle pants."

My Nomex Bananahammock works for me....

I've been wearing Cargo pants for decades, mainly A&F or Gap. I prefer them to jeans - simply because they have more pockets to put stuff in.

I had cargo shorts that had a drawstring instead of belt... it is cooler than a leather belt on those 100 degree plus days... but where did I get them> I do not remember... does anyone remember seeing them in the catalogs etc? Maybe they are a pair my wife ordered... she does not remember...... I neeed some more but can not find whee.. help??

I get hot and sweaty really easy so a lot of my clothing is oriented towards keeping me cool.

Another photog showed me these pants and I've been wearing them ever since. They're pretty much the only pants I wear to work year round. I get them at REI.

The best thing I've discovered this year are wicking shirts! I like the New Ballance ones the best. They make a golf shirt that looks good and keeps me cool and dry. I've bought about a dozen of them.

Now if I can get this to say media we would all be in great shape!

But I am kidding.
Actually, it wouldn't be hard to do. Just get a piece of black fabric from Jo-Ann Fabrics and I bet you can find iron-on letters there too. Just iron them onto the black fabric and you can easily hand sew the fabric at each corner over the 'Police' sign and bada-bing, you look as official as the police, dount not included.

Do any of you use vests with all the pockets to hold stuff when you are on a shoot?

I have owned just about every one made.

I currently like the tradesman's vest sold by Duluth Trading Co.

Surprisingly, I find the vest to be most helpful when I am running a satellite truck--lots of small things needed all the time, easily kept in the pockets.

YEA THE VESTS ARE A JOY FOR PLUGS AND AND PARTS. SINCE I USE MINI DV AND SMALLER CAMERAS LIKE THE Z1 AND PAYY GS35'S THE BATTERIES ARE SMALL AND FIT IN TOO..... GOOD STUFF... i NEED A LIGHT ONE THOUGH THE DARK ONE IS A BUMMER IN THE SUMMER!

I have been on 511Tactical mailing list for a while. Good tough gear for the job but I do find the brochure a bit over the top all guns and clean looking fellers.
We know what segment of society the clothing is aimed at I just find all the guns a bit over the top.
If you want tough these things are a good alternative.
