An Open Letter to Nino (and others)

October 12, 2013 forum topics
I feel like I should make a public response here.

I’ve been honored to have Nino on this forum for a number of years. In the early days of the site, his knowledge was a huge asset to the site. Encouraging others to learn more about lighting and make themselves better at their craft.

Many NAB events and b-roll.net BASHES have been shared with Nino enjoying a pint or two (at least I was enjoying a pint).

Nino even helped sponsor the site in a way to raise awareness to his educational endeavor, efplighting.com.

I know Nino loves his craft, he’s great at it and only wants others to learn and better themselves.

All that being said, I can not continue to allow his bashing of others on the site (and everyone else stop bashing Nino). The beauty of b-roll.net is it has a wide variety of constituents. We’re not just a production site. We’re not just a news site.

We all do different variations of this television photography game – and we all have different pressures on how we do it. Some people love the down and dirty aspect of the news game and would never shoot with 3 point lighting. Other’s heads would explode if they had to shoot with just a top light.

If you have constructive ideas to share, we’re happy to hear it. If your post has nothing to do with the business – but rather a personal issue with someone else – don’t hit the SEND key. (I do realize the irony of me making that statement after a complete post about an individual – but I feel I need to set some ground rules.)

Thanks to everyone who has support this site for nearly 18 years. I want b-roll.net to come back strong and be a valuable site for discussion again – but if it only becomes popular as a constant "virtual bar fight", it’s not worth the server space…

All the best,
kev
