Carrying a gun at work.

News crews getting attacked is nothing new. But it does seem to be happening more often. This brings up the question of employees like photographers who go to sketchy areas carrying a personal weapon for protection. A tough question to deal with.

We just had a sat truck/news photog fired here in Miami for having a gun with him. He has all the legal carry permits. Just had it with him. Did not pull it or threaten anyone.

Simple case of the reporter he was working with finding out the guy had a gun and the reporter calls back to let the bosses know he had it. Never a moment of confrontation or reacting to a threat during the assignment. Just a reporter who thought photog was wrong for even having it.

Company rules are clear. No employee guns allowed with you on assignment or in company vehicles. Reporter never said a word to photog about turning him in. Guy comes back to newsroom and is fired.
