Orlando Photog Question

Hi guys and gals,

I need to know what the deal is with Orlando especially WOFL (Fox O&O)? I live on the west coast where things are expensive. I need to know what apartments are running there in Orlando (2 bed) not crack land but not Wilsihre Blvd either. I'm a single dad so I need to know about high schools as well.

It's market 19 and I want to know what is the pay range for Photo'g with a least four years exp. If I take the job this will be the third market I've worked in news. I hope the pay is in the 40's ? I won't have a take home vechicle. I may not get that much in moving expenses. I just do want to take a financial bath because it's market 19 and they are paying like market 70. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks gang!!

I've got a couple friends who used to work there, but still work in the area. I hate to bring you down on a seemingly-exciting opportunity, but you're going to be very disappointed unless you're very good at salary negotiations.

As far as the area goes, though, I'm told by these same friends that it's become the #1 hardest place in the United States to sell a house. The Orlando city commission is ravenously approving condo building after condo building without realizing the reprocussions on folks who already live there. You might be able to work that to an extreme advantage.

That said, make sure you're willing to sink in for a few years while the boom wears off (or the commissioners are voted out, whichever comes first).

from my past experience with wofl.....depending on your experience top scale is
40k......rents approx. 800-900 for a 2 br and seminole county schools traditionally are the best in the area......

That's apparently changed quite dramatically. Last I heard, WOFL's pay scale is the lowest in the market. Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the area is $800 and up. Two bedrooms are going for above a grand now.

Jajack, in my opinion, you're better off buying instead of renting, or you mgiht as well start looking elsewhere.

chi dog,

you might be right. I'm saying from my experience (what i was offered) was 40k and that was top scale......

Shade is right. I was offered a job there back in November, and the top salary they could get me was 41k. No take home car, and they couldn't even cover my moving exspenses. As far as gear goes, I know the station is supposedly switching to either P2 or the XD HD cameras. But when I interviewed there, they were shooting on some really bad hand me down DVC pro cameras. I mean really bad! Definately not market 19 equipment! Management seemed nice, and so were the other photogs. Would've taken the job, but I got a much better offer west of Orlando.

Top 25?

Weird question because of this......how many top 25 markets AREN'T paying or shooting with what we think they should?
