I have a dream...

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day b-roll.net will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all photogs are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former reporters and the sons of former photographers will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of assignment editor injustice, sweltering with the heat of producer oppression and dog lick live shots,
will be transformed into an oasis of nat packs, features and 2 person crews.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color balance of their fancycams or by the "Auto" button of thier babycams, but by the content of their story characters.

I have a dream today!

With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of VJ despair a CCD of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our industry into a beautiful Newsroom of the future. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to "gang bang" together, to enter contests together, to go to perp walks together, to stand up for Chicago dog and Rad, Joey and FTOJRLST together,
knowing that we will all be freelancers one day.

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the edit bay with.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every small market, from every ADI and every network, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, Beta men and XD men, P-2 and Quicktime files, Pannies and Consumer Canons,
will all be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Lenslinger spiritual:

Freelance at last! Freelance at last!

Thank God Almighty, we are freelance at last!

You think we can afford live trucks in Mississippi? Or producers?

Down here, a nat pack is a group of mosquitoes.
