NABET-CWA/ABC Negotiations Bulletin 45

BULLETIN 45

December 7, 2007

NABET-CWA and ABC, Inc. have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year agreement to replace the one that expired on March 31, 2007. The Union's bargaining committee, as well as NABET-CWA President John S. Clark and Sector Vice President James C. Joyce, are unanimously recommending the ratification of the agreement by the ABC membership.

The parties reached the agreement after the Union convinced ABC to make several significant modifications to its October 22, 2007 "last, best and final" offer during off-the-record meetings that began in New York City on November 28. Your bargaining committee believes that this tentative agreement, with the improvements negotiated over the last several days, constitutes the best deal we are able to make at this time.

Details of the agreement will be released by your Local Union as soon as all the documentation is finalized. In addition, Locals will announce dates for membership meetings to discuss the tentative agreement as soon as arrangements for such meetings are completed.

Ratification will take place by secret ballot. Ballots will be mailed on December 17,

2007, and must be received by January 10, 2008. The ballots will be counted and the results will be announced on January 11, 2008.

Your bargaining committee thanks you for your support and patience during these very difficult negotiations.

In closing, we remind all members to ignore rumors. All official negotiation and mobilization information will be delivered on the Sector website at www.abc-contract.info. Please also check Local websites, hotlines, and e-mail for additional information.

Okay, after all that mumbo-jumbo that they spewed with that message, what agreement have they reached? What exactly makes this good news?

Warren, it means no lock out. And that would be good news for those who lived -- and tried to replace the lost work -- through the last one.
