First go to this Sony site: (it's all free...)
http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/resource.downloads

and download the Log and Transfer Utility plugin. There are lots of other goodies there as well.

FCP

Using Sony XDCAM transfer.

1. Start Project
2. Choose project settings that match the majority of the media (XDCAM EX 1080i 50
35mb/s VBR)
3. File> Import> Sony XDcam, This will load Sony XDcam transfer, all files on the
attached media will be displayed.
4. FIRST click on the XDCAM Transfer drop menu and select preferences> import and
choose the preferred location for the files to be saved (this should be on the
editshare)
5. Now you can click on clips and play them in the preview window.
6. From here you can also subclip using in and out points and by clicking on the logging
tab you can add clip details.
7. Usefully you can also select the status of the clip (e.g. Good, Keep, No Status, Not
Good) these can be filtered later in FCP.
8. You can do this for individual clips then click import (making sure you choose which
project you wish to import to if you have more than 1 open), or you can log all the
clips you wish to import and then select all of these using shift or apple control and
then import.
9. These files will then appear in your fcp bin ready for editing.

Well, that's part of it, but there are some very important steps missing from those instructions.
The OP asked about "workflow" and that involves more than just how to import clips. Importing the clips is the easy part.
