To Monopod or Not?

Hi Guys and Girls, I just made a search on the internet to find where I can buy a good monopod for my larger cameras. One that isn't made for still cameras and will quickly clamp onto the V plate. There are a few of the guys here use them and like them for taking the weight off and shooting tall players (like in sports scrums). Have you used a monopod before..any other benefits, concerns?

thanks Jeff

All the monopods I've seen are the Manfrotto variety... 680 and 681 usually. I have mine in black which is $5 more for some reason.

I bought the V-mount wedge from Sonovideo in Montreal. Came to $175 to the door including shipping and taxes. Monopod was $70.

How do they use it to shoot tall sports players? You can't tilt with a monopod. You can either squat, or have the monopod extend out farther and rest the camera on your shoulder. But Murphy's Law dictates that everytime you extend your monopod, someone will trip over it.

I would laugh out loud..
