On a message board of station acheivments, behind a locked pane of glass, was a letter from a local elementary school.
'Thanks for the great coverage', it said, yet in a little more detail.
It mentioned that the story was well put together and was really great and how excited all of the children were to see themselves on TeeVee.
It was signed by all the students and was accompanied by a handwritten letter by another student.
A PostIt note was attached declaring which reporter was responsible for such great accolades.
The PostIt note was WRONG!!!
In fact I had done the story, with no reporter. I had been assigned to go tell the story of the 5th graders who are trying to get a law passed naming Lexington's BBQ festival the official state food festival.
I told the manager it was addressed to about the oversite and he gave me a puzzled look and promised to check it out. I even jokingly put another PostIt note on the outside of the glass proclaiming myself the shooter, writer, editor of the piece, while giving praise to the lady Anchor (not the male reporter) who graced it with a voice.
The next morning my impromptu PostIt was gone and the accolades to the reporter were unchanged, thought the other contents of the board had gone the way of their daily update.
I asked the manager again, but my timing must have been bad. He jumped my ass about it proclaiming that, Yes, everyone knows you did the story...blah, blah, blah.
OK!? So I dropped it.
Then walking by the board about 30 minutes later I noticed the accolades were gone. Removed from the board entirely.
I guess if a Photog did it, it doesn't matter.
