Collapsing tracks in Final Cut

Is there a way in FCP to collapse separate video tracks like in Avid? I read some stuff in the manual about 'nesting' but I guess I'm going for more of a submaster that I can open up and still move things around in if I want to...

Nesting will do that. You can highlight the clips and layers you want, select "nest layers". That will 'collapse' the selected layers into one layer. If you then double click on the nested layer, those layers will open in a seperate sequence, so you can still move things around as you wish.
