what is considered low tape hours?

It looks like my Varicam has sold.

If this winner pays and sends the money, I will be looking at a used HDX900 body/viewfinder (already have a Samurai and lens) and saving the rest of the money towards a Sony F5/F55

What is a decent number of tape hours for this camera? How long does the head drum usually last?

2000 hours is usually considered the point at which you get new heads though they can go past that. Less than 1000 hours is good for a used camera & less than 500 hours is great for a used camera.

These are "tape" hours (tape actually running past heads) not "operation" hours.

Okay, I am not opposed to buying a Bexel rental camera. My philosophy is that these cameras have been regularly maintained by an engineer on site (I used to take my gear to the local Bexel to get fixed all the time), and that it has been thoroughly checked out and tested before being put up for sale.
