shift in news staffing

I think I might know, but can anyone tell me why news has been going to OMB's ?
I remember when stations had Photographer/Reporter teams, then editors, some photographers would also edit. Why is it that news stations are changing to Reporters who can also shoot/edit ??

My guess is that it's all about saving money (??)

I also noticed too that Reporters know nothing about photography or lighting, but they understand editing, since it's easy. Nobody gives a **** about good photography, it's ALL about just telling a story, no matter how it's shot.....
