I am looking for a drive so I can import video into FCP on my Macbook Pro and when finished deliver it back to the client on XDCam. The projects I work on are shot on XDCam SD and sometimes HD. It would be handy if I could work on them at home too. Will this drive do it for me? Any special software I need? Or is this really a plug and play drive for XDCam?

For the moment the PDW-U1 is a read only device. In a short while there will be a firmware update so that you also can write back to the professional disc. According to my source, it will read and write all flavors of XDCAM, XDCAM HD and XDCAM HD422.
You must install the supplied XDCAM transfer software that comes with the PDW-U1.
