I agree. When package rolls, it's tossed from either the anchor or a reporter. So you would be going from one talking head to another.

A few exceptions - if it's an ongoing story everyone is familar with and it's an emotional sot, then it may work.

But overall, I avoid opening with a sot that is uncovered.

I agree, set the seen visually before you see the interview. Thats not to say don't start with a SOT, just cover it up.

Do we tell him to walk into or out of frame? ("When I cue you, just walk right past me."

Maybe have Him typing away at the computer...getting wide, medium, and tight shots...shots of his fingers tapping away at the keyboard...a shot from behind. If he puts on glasses, get a shot of the reflection off his glasses of the keyboard or monitor?
