All of the aerial images yesterday evening of the damage in Mayflower, AR looks to have come from small UAV drones. Seems very clear how much these are needed in areas where local TV stations don’t have helicopters. At this point I don’t think it really matters what the FAA says. When they are needed in disaster situations like this, use them. I’ve had fire and police both tell me they can’t have them because of the FAA but if I were to show up at a scene with one that had video transmitted to a ground monitor that they could see, they’d let me use it and would just look the other way because its a tool they really need. We’ll see. I’ll have my new one soon.
