For those of you who are interested in these things.............

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation is celebrating 50 yrs in TV in November this year. There will be a ball in Melbourne to celebrate. TV was pushed through here to cover the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, although well behind the USA and Britain.

However the ABC does also have a radio arm, which has been in service since the late 1920's.

Aside from that..............a web site has been set up to post information regarding the 'big event'. Added to this site are a large number of photos of staff, equipment, location shoots etc.

Whilst you will know no one in them, you may be interested to see our TV and it's technology evolving over the years. Follow the link to the photos page (ignore our footy tipping) which are all in various catagories.

Cheers.

Still got 4 years until New Zealand will be celebrating 50 years, the first official TV transmission was on June 1st 1960 in Auckland. Colour TV arrived here in 1974 to coincide with Christchurch hosting the Commonwealth Games, although production in Black and White continued for sometime after that.

I'm really hoping TVNZ has a good celebration of our 50 year mark, because there really is some facsinating history to showcase.
