Portland, anyone?

What can people tell me about the Portland market?
-Good vs bad stations
-Equipment
-Pay (is it what B-roll.net's salary survey says it is?)
-The climate (I assume they have winters, but how severe?)
-The culture (Educated? Redneck? Liberal? Conservative?)
-Photojouralism (is it competitively NPPA-oriented, or run-and-gun?)

starting pay less than 30k
KGW hand me down equipment from KING 5 in Seattle
Koin nice new building never been in there
K2 don't know much about but I heard it was a good place to work if you like getting payed S@#$.
winter is in the 40's mostly couple days of snow per year but it usually melts that day.
world class skiing almost all year round at mt. hood
KGW is union don't know about the rest....
depends on experience.
summer is very nice no better place to live thatn the Northwest July, Aug, Sept.
lots of protests about everything too many hippies
