so, just started a new job shooting long format stories after shooting nothing but the normal 1-2 minute general assignment pieces.

wondered if you folks could tear a few of my first pieces apart. i've received more positive than negative feedback from the newsroom, but there are some that mention (along with their positive feedback) that they think i chop report's track up too much.

(these should all be safari friendly)

i know that's a lot of video and i'm not looking for a shot-by-shot breakdown (unless, you know, you're killing time with nothing better to do). just if they keep your attention, if they're watchable, etc.

thanks, greatly.

I liked this story better the first time you did it at your old job. I thought you had more sequences, stronger photography and the length was just right the first time around.

That was a nice open on the start of "Inflated Promises". I also liked the lighting of the investigator you cut the fat off of him.

shot variety

you're right about the shot variety. it was harder to shoot this version of the missing story because no matter how far away from the subject i got, you could tell people made the immediate connection. louisville folks just seemed to ignore me. the "inflated promises" opening sequence is one of my favorites, and it doesn't even bother me that we wound up having to cut it down to what you see versus the :30 second longer version.

Loved "Inflated Promises"...kept me hooked the whole way through. There were some really creative shots of the outside of the house in there as well. Same goes for the video of the woman and her husband. Things like her letting the dog in showed that a lot of time went into it.

I especially enjoyed the reveal at the end of the job at Target. It really brought it home.

I know this isn't very constructive but you are a wonderful photographer. I watched the missing story and the drunk people in the river story and thought they were very well done.

Many photogs shoot very "literally." They shoot whats in front of them. Dog barks...shoot the dog. Sun sets...shoot the sun.

You seem to shoot "nuanced." You shoot what you need to very well....i.e. lighting, composition, sequencing and take it a step further by shooting "nuances." Or maybe a better way to say it is you shoot between and outside the lines. For instance, your shot of the Mississippi River is not just a river...it's a creepy, crimsoned dark pit of danger for nearby drunks.

I know some reporters that are good at nuanced writing because they see not just what you shot...but what you both want to convey to the viewer. Not just a dog barking....

Again not very constructive. The reporter track is definitely broken up...but I seem to like that style.
I look forward to seeing more.
thanks
