I posted this in the General Discussion. But i'm hoping to get some information from some chiefs who might have a more "administrative" opinion.
This is what I posted in my 1st post, and more information in a reply. Sorry, but i dont want to type it all up again.
"Ok, I was, well, "released" about 2 years ago from my photog job. Since then I've been doing a desk job. (no, for you Family Guy fans, i'm not a desk)
Anyhoo, I'm wanting to get back into the business. I have a rough copy of a resume tape that I can get refined with no problem. But will being out of the business for 2 years be a huge detriment?
I was in TV News for just shy of 5 years. 4 years and 50 weeks to be a little more exact. And a good 3+ of that is shooting part and full time.
I've shot the gamut. Spot news, sports, press confrences, court house, government, ect.
Any tips that i could use to prove that i'm not as rusty as i'm afraid i might be?
I know picking up a camera is like riding a bike. I'm not afraid that I wont be able to function as a fully competant shooter. But how do I convey that to a prospective employer?"
"I spent most of my time at 1 station. I started morning show production, moved to 6-10, then weekend shooter/editer (cut to cut), then 6-10 editer, then morning show editer/shooter, then one of the full time photogs left to become a fireman and I filled his spot.
Can't really climb the ladder any better.
I was working in the Rochester/Austin, MN/Mason City, IA market. After I was let go I worked for a month (sweeps) in Mankato, Minnesota because a good friend of mine was the News Director there.
But that was only a temp situation.
I had 4 job offers after I was let go, including KIMT in Mason City while Dave Wertheimer was ND, I really should've picked up that job.
I'm in the MPLS/ST. Paul area right now, this may be an improper place to ask this. But if anyone is working at any of the Twin Cities stations, are they looking for a weekend photog? I would think that KSTP could use the help.
I do have a good connection there, he was a photographer at my station, and now he's an engineer with KSTP, and Hubbard owns kstp and my former station.
I do have a rough copy of a resume tape. Some pretty solid material imo, I had it critiqued a couple years ago and I got some positive marks, plus I had Dave Wertheimer look at it, and he also gave me good marks. Which, for me, is a hell of a compliment. But it's definatly not ready to be sent out at this time."
