CTV Toronto news studio

Standby for the new set and I'm told a swtch to 16:9 HD all at the same time .... and not a minute too soon for me. I can't wait to see Pete's gas prices and watermain breaks in HD!

I'm watching Newsworld in HD right now. Welcome to Canada President Obama. I just love that he took a minute to wave to the thousands of people on the hill. He's got class!

Will the field cameras also be HD or like City and the CBC the only HD cameras are in the studio?

CFTO uses XDCAM (PDW700s) like CP24 (and it seems the rest of Canada!). I'm guessing they'll do the same as other news outlets -- shoot field stuff in SD and studio stuff in HD. HD is a pain in the ass to edit for daily news.

I think plans are in the works to be 100% HD (both field and studio) soon. The Olympics are coming up soon and CTV will be HD ready.

I glad to see CTV is making an effort to go full HD for the Olympics. I'm surprised they are waiting until the last year before the Olympics to do the switch. Anyone know when they are doing the switch? Is it later this year or just before the games?
 
I dont understand why they would switch a local newcast to HD before launching there National News in HD. That makes absolutly no sense, also what about Canada AM that could use HD aswell.

CFTO is CTV's juggernaugt. As for CTV national news going HD. ABC and CBS nationals news on went HD last fall. I htink NBC sarted bay on 2007 not sure about the date. Today on NBC is in HD CBS Morning show isn't. Not sure about GMA on ABC.

Don't think that many CTV markets will go that way other than Vancouver. CTV will save $$$$ by keeping Saskatoon, The 'peg and maritimes in SD.


Will "World Beat News" be a real HD newscast
Or CFTO's field cameras be 16x9 SD like the CBC and City.?
What about the transmission trucks and the Sky 9/CP24 chopper?
How long before CTV is looking for efficiencies between the plethora of camera folks at 299 and Stalag 9?

Is this their new cameras, the look really blue and heavy.

Anyone have a timetable of when montreal will flick the switch to digital.

Also, will this new HD newscast require new graphics and stuff etc.
