  • We are trying to put together a schedule, unfortunately I have to work it around my workload, my clients still have priority. As I gradually start the retirement slow down process there will be many more. Teaching (how to make a decent living in this business) will be the next phase of my career.

I'll keep you posted, thanks for your interest.
Is there a way to get on a mailing list to stay informed on these workshops? I would love the opportunity to learn from someone whose work I respect.
I do conduct multiple days workshops as time allows it. As I'm gradually starting to reduce my workload and delegate more jobs to other crews one of my plan is to increase the number of workshops.
    Nino-

Have you ever given thought to teaching a multiple day course in lighting setups? If not, do you know anyone that you recommend who does this?
    Nino,

Wanting to purchase some battery powered LEDs (used some Light Panels on a road trip and a big client loved them, quick setup and strike and no cables!!!) Was looking at the new bi-color LEDs at NAB. Company called Socanland had the best constructed ones. They had the new oblong unit that was a larger source light (which we all like). They also have US distributor (unlike many of the Chinese manufacturers @ NAB) Any thoughts on bi-color or larger units?

Settling in out here in Phoenix and will never spend another winter in Michigan unless someone drags me back on plane at gunpoint :-)

Hope all is well with you.

    Dennis
Thanks for the friend list add. For what it's worth, your posts are one of the primary reasons I frequent this board. It's not hard to see who the true professionals are around here.
OK. Thanks anyway. I am anxious to hear what Macie Video says after they look at it this week.
Nino, have you ever experienced the error code 1394 E-92 on the T/C Audio LCD display on your HDX900? I just ship my camera off to Macie to have it serviced, set-up, etc and they said they would look into the error message. - SUPE
I'm sure you can make it work for that budget. A lot depends on what camera and format you'll be using. Here we get $1800 per day for a cameraman with a Panasonic HDX900, $350.00 more for a soundtech. Finding six cameramen with matching cameras might be next to impossible, and if you do you'll need an engineer to match the cameras. You better off renting six cameras and find six shooters without gears. The rental company will match the cameras. This is the way that is usually done on multi camera productions. If you have never done a shoot this size I would recommend to hire somebody who had done it before.

    Good luck
I have a budget question for you, since you seem to have a lot of experience in large productions.

I'm trying to do a back-of-the-napkin daily budget estimate for a reality TV show about high school football. Let's say I need six HD camera crews, plus a simple audio setup and a minimal lighting crew.

I assume an HD crew is what, about $1500 per day? So multiply that by six, pay the audio and lighting crew, do catering, and pay for permits, licenses, insurance, etc, and I'm looking at about $30,000 per shooting day. Does that ballpark figure seem reasonable?
