The Justice League of Photographers -vs – Hollywood Boulevard: July 2013

August 2, 2013 photog blogs

It actually wasn’t an “official” JLOP get together.  Mostly it was just me saying on Facebook that I might want to go out to Hollywood and take pictures last Friday night.

That’s how I wound up with a couple of my fellow photography artists (enthusiasts? hobbyists?) taking the time to try to make a little art and add to our collective street photography coverage of Hollywood Boulevard.

With all the clubgoers, tourists, party people and even the street folk who populate Hollywood Boulevard on a Friday night, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

It takes some will power to not just shoot the young girls in skimpy outfits, but I’m at least trying to not go for just the obvious.

(I’m also trying to not be a creepy guy with a camera.)

I think we find some pretty worthwhile subjects, but it’s rare that we (okay, maybe just me) find anything to shoot that actually reaches the level of artistic ambition that we’re aiming to hit.

Sometimes we do.

But even if we simply take the opportunity to get out of the house and out of our comfort zones. . .

. . .we’re typically thankful for having put in the effort.

I know of one street photographer who claims that he shoots thousands of images a year and is thankful if he has five or six images to show for his effort.

If he looked at photography the way that I look at it, he might want to get out there and shoot a little more often.

Heck, you know somebody needs to be there to take the pictures.
