freeman_neg1From a batch of Mervyn Freeman negatives I’m digitizing to see who and what is on them, here’s one of Freeman and his colleagues back around 1936.

Judging by the gas masks, bullet-proof vests and relatively light silent cameras that can be tossed over a shoulder and ran with, they are likely covering a labor strike. In those days, unfortunately it wasn’t unusual for bullets and tear gas to fly during civil unrest.
