Mini-Manuals in b-roll.net WIKI
b-roller, Dennis Hart of Semaphore Video recently wrote me with an interesting idea.
Kevin,
As I was riding the train to Chicago to look at a dizzying array of new cameras I recalled you were looking for some new ideas for b-roll. On my last 10 HD jobs I used 8 different camera requiring some late night reading of each manual. All these cameras have either things that can “bite” you if you miss them in the manual or tips and ticks that will make your shoot go smoother and you pictures look better.
How about a section where freelancers can post what they’ve learned kinda of like a Wikipedia posting for each camera? That way when faced with yet another producer telling me I have to use X camera and none other, we can quickly pickup some insider knowledge.
What do you think?
Dennis
Well, Dennis, consider it done. We now have http://www.b-roll.net/wiki. Using your b-roll.net FORUM login, you can create pages and edit others. Tell us about the deep menu tweak that saved your last shoot, or the unique audio connection that created a nightmare.
With everyone’s help, we’ll create a powerful resource that can save you the next time you’ve got to shoot with a new camera. Our system uses the same “code” as the real Wikipedia, and check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tips for tips on how to create and edit pages.
And yes, Dennis Hart has already contributed with tips on the Canon XH A1. Thanks Dennis!
