If so, the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Office of External Affairs is recruiting experienced broadcast uplink engineers to join its national disaster reserve force. Successful candidates must be a US Citizen and should have solid broadcast satellite uplink experience with network or local news operations and demonstrated knowledge of broadcast news and production equipment. Your primary duty will consist of coordinating the reception, deployment and operation of flyaway broadcast systems at disaster operations throughout the United States. Other duties include: providing engineering support to contract and full-time videographers and producers with the set up and tear down of live news conferences and other live events; providing technical support and liaison to the national media; performing scheduled tape feeds and other broadcast related functions. If you are energetic, flexible, can travel on very short notice anywhere in the U.S., and available to work on an intermittent (part time) basis, this job is for you. Interested candidates must be free to travel at a minimum of two to six weeks at a time, and sometimes longer, usually with as little as a day or two of notice. You will need to be able to produce high quality work with minimal supervision, under pressure and in a hectic work environment. Travel to and from a deployment location is paid for, along with day-to-day expenses for lodging and an allotment for meals and expenses. Please note that FEMA employees may be subject to 24-hour on-call in the event of an emergency. This service may require irregular working hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Employees must be able to relocate to emergency sites with little advance notice and function under intense physical and mental stress.
