NEWS PHOTOJOURNALIST (WCIV ) Charleston, SC POSITION SUMMARY: WCIV-TV is looking for a creative and energetic photojournalist to produce quality video and sound for our newscast. Duties will include, but not limited to, packages, vo/sots, editing and ENG live truck operation. Must be able to work alone or collaboratively with reporters and producers. Care for and maintain all assigned equipment, including basic vehicle care. Safely and courteously operate station news vehicles at all times. Serve as an on-call photojournalist as required. You will be issued your own gear and car, including a new JVC GY-HM790 camera. WCIV has new Adobe Premier CS5 editing in preparation for our transition to HD. REQUIREMENTS: College degree in communications field or equivalent. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education requirements. One year demonstrated TV photojournalism experience preferred. Have or acquire knowledge of metro Charleston & SC geographic area. Must possess or acquire valid SC driver's license and able to operate company vehicles in a safe manner. Three-year driving record to be provided prior to hire. ENG live truck experience necessary. We have successfully run this apprenticeship for 11 years and seven of our former apprentices are now full-time Directors of Photography for Go To Team. We provide the training, gear and support, you provide the great attitude. This position will be based in Atlanta, GA and you will work regularly with our Director of Photography and Go To Team Partner, Tom Wells (former apprentice) for clients like Turner Sports (TNT), FOX Sports, Speed Channel, MTV, VH1, ABC News and NBC News . You will be working as a camera assist, running audio, and lighting while learning every aspect of high-end video production. At the end of the Apprenticeship, we hope to move you into a full-time Director of Photography position in one of our other markets. Although during a typical week you'll work 4 ten hour days, overtime is a sure thing. Experience in pa, audio and grip work are a plus. However, a solid reel and hard working attitude are key. This position supervises the activities of the edit area including workload, establishes departmental priorities and manages quality control. The Edit Supervisor also performs editing functions as required to support daily newscasts.
Essential Job Functions
50%-Supervises editing staff and oversees daily operation of content editing.
40%-Performs editing functions in support of daily newscasts.
10%-Oversees editing system maintenance.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: All must be met to be considered.
Education: College Degree in Communications, Television Production or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Minimum of three years non-linear editing experience in television news operations, preferably in a top 20 market. One year experience in a production house environment may be substituted for one year of news editing experience. Previous supervisory experience is required.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must possess effective interpersonal skills. Advanced knowledge of AVID editing systems required. Must possess good story telling and communications skills. Good sense of timing and pace is also required. Ability to teach and lead departmental staff. Must be available to work a flexible schedule.
