If you are like me and love their products and have been waiting for the wi-fi backpack to come out, it's now available on their website. They first announced the device that will transmit an ad-hoc wi-fi signal to iPads and iPhones back in the fall but kept pushing delivery back month after month. At NAB they were reluctant to announce the release date and said they were working to make sure the packs worked to their satisfaction.
http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories...-remote-combo/ They've also added a new underwater housing and lens to correct flaws with their current systems. Complaints about the current lens softness while using underwater prompted them to make the change. http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/dive-housing/ |

Not nearly as useful without the app. I'll probably wait til the app is ready.

I bought two Tuesday afternoon at Best Buy. I guess it's my fault for not checking first, but no app makes the wifi packs useless to me. I don't care about JUST being able to remotely start and stop recording with their included remote. I have $200 worth of very light paper weights in my office now. At least until the app is released... Seems GoPro is taking the same approach that a lot of tech companies are using now: Announce a really cool product with really cool features then continuously push back the release of the product and when it is released, it's not FULLY functional with the announced features that made it worth buying because "We'll add/make that feature available at a future date".
BTW, I contacted GoPro about the lack of the app and this was their response: Quote:

From reading on other boards, some blame Apple for the delay of the app. But I wil hit BB later today to get one. I really need it.

That kinda popped into my head, too(Apple approving the app), but I've heard of companies/corporations making their own apps that are only used "in-house", so to speak, and aren't released onto the app store, so I'm not sure if something like this would HAVE to be approved by Apple, but probably since this isn't something being used "in-house" by a specific corporation. And the Android app is not out, either. But it would probably make things even worse if they did release the Android version and iOS users were left out in the cold for a while.

Whether it's hardware or software if they don't have it right now they might never have it. I'm sure Go Pro will have the app available sometime this late summer/fall but you just never know these days.
Too many companies promising a product that they never deliver or deliver over a year later. I'll wait until they have the whole package available because that suits my needs. |

Picked mine yesterday at BB. Yes, you do have to follow the directions... Once, doing that, I have it working on the Hero 1. The only catch when testing it, it will turn on/off the camera, but the Wi-Fi bac will stay on. I didn't think about that, so the battery on the Wi-Fi back went low...
Overall, I like the ability to change camera settings(movie, photo, etc.) with the remote. Will do a full test on Saturday. Mountain biking. Picked up a mount that mounts on the rails of the seat. With the remote, I won't have to reach behind the seat to turn on the camera. Now, I have to figure where to carry the remote.

so the little remote does not show the picture, you need the smartphone for that?
if apple is blocking this, why isn't it available for droid? Apple sucks!

I did discover a bug. When you charge the remote, the remote stays on after you disconnect it from the USB port. I did find someone else that discovered it, too.
The little LCD window doesn't do video. Even found a cheap tablet to view when the app is done!
