You can shoot news with an Etch-a Sketch. News will put anything on the air, no matter how crappy it looks, if they can get it for free.

Asking if an iPhone can shoot news is like asking if you can eat ramen all by yourself for thanksgiving. Yes, but it is very depressing if you do.

What's new is the editing software. Don't think we've ever had a pocket HD camera that can edit a VO/SOT and e-mail/upload wirelessly.
At the moment you lose a lot of quality when uploading, since it compresses it to SD standards, but I imagine they'll fix that at some point.
