Quick Question:
What system does this WPXI Channel 11 (Pittsburgh) LIVE truck use. I see the Quik Stic logo, but I can't find who makes it. Anyone with more info on how it works or with a link would be a great help.

Its pretty much the same with a normal live truck. It can use either 7 or 2 gig. The ABC station here in vegas does use them. I'm going to bet that when we switch over to Digital microwave they will work a lot better. I know a lot of the time they have to have a line of site to the mountain top for it to work its best, but sometimes they get lucky with a bounce shot.

Do you or anyone else know the name/website of the manufacturer... I googled quik stic but came up with nothing.

It looks similar to what's pictured on this page: http://www.mrcbroadcast.com/products/Port_Van_Sys.htm

we have two trucks with the quik stic here at wpxi.
the one in the picture is assigned to one of our bureaus and is a straight 2gig analog microwave system. with a repeater on the tower in that county, they actually have a pretty good range of coverage. our other truck with the quik stic is our cofdm truck ( on the same expedition platform) running digital and analog transmitters.

I think Weinmiller (sp?) up in PA makes those. They re-built one of our old E350's a few years ago and didn't do a very good job of it.... Maybe they've changed since.....

Way back in the day (mid to late 90's) at a POS station in Texas, we used a homemade version with a 2G xmtr, 30' mast mounted in the back of a 3/4 ton Suburban....the stormchaser. Nothin fancy, peiroscope aim, dedicated channel, on/off switch, 60psi air compressor, one video, one audio input...so simple an intern could run it. Never failed, until the tranny went out, then the engine....but we got our 175k miles out of it.
Damn cheap and very quick to set up.

Is there a website with the quik stic on it? I haven't been able to find one. Would like to see how it works.

actually the quick stic is adapted (in our case, by wolf coach) from a unit designed to help emergency vehicles with their emergency lighting.
as in....the fire trucks extend these masts with high power halogens on them to light a scene. we get them through a company called Will-Burt and then, as I said, they're modded by Wolf. Here's Will-Burt's site: http://www.willburt.com/litNSChief.asp
