Default Avid Advice????

Is there an inexpensive version of Avid Newscutter out there that could be used for editing in the field on a high end laptop? Something that has a similar layout to Newscutter that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg? I looked at Studio and a few others, but they don't have much of a similar look.

Thanks!

Don't know of anything much cheaper than that. Why is the look so important?

AVID used to offer cheaper alternatives but not anymore. The only option is Media Composer for about $2500.

i remember a version for $600 or so a few years back. depending on what you need it for (HD or not) maybe you can get a used slightly older copy with a dongle somewhere?

Yup...Express Pro HD...With the dongle. I can upgrade to MC for $1k. There was a free verson of Avid...Very basic...Don't know if any site still has it.

And Avid software/hardware is picky. Express Pro HD only runs on XP. And it was picky on what soundcard and video card you used.

If you are still using XP, you can go the used way, but If I remember right, you have get ownership transferred...Maybe not...

Necktie...I have AVID Express Pro and it runs on (yes only) XP but also on Mac OSX. Kind of like Final Cut Express...it has what you need at a price you can afford. Very useful for basic editing with some enhancements.
