I've never been told a specific shutter speed to shoot. I have been told "shoot the b-roll with shutter effect". In those cases, I usually shoot at 250 or 500 at 60i.

Run&Gun is an unknown quantity at this point

I've shot on shows where the entire set-up was specified: Camera, Format/Codec, Camera Set-Up(look of the camera), Frame Rate, Shutter, General Lighting Set-Up, etc.

Default shutter speeds with 24p frame rate

As a veteran sound man it's funny when I see somewhat inexperienced "DPs" with a new camera shooting in 24p and I see in the side LCD it will say 24p 1/24th
Yes they are shooting at 1/24th shutter speed.

Smart producers know 1/48th sec shutter speed for 24p but if it's news for ABC and they ask for 24p they still want 1/60th second shutter speed.

I remember with nostalgia when we didn't have to worry about all this. Today I have permanently written with bold Sharpie inside my camera Porta Brace case: CAMERA SETTINGS??? This because I always have to ask the producer how they want the setting to be. Most of the work we do for ESPN is on 24fps, that includes features, all interviews and studio type shows, or anything that goes directly to edit. If the video is live or to be fed via sat then is 60fps. Action shot is producer's preference, many want to stay at 24fps. and I hate that because I find it very difficult to focus on fast moving subject at 24pfs. Some producers want 60fps. and I like this much better for focusing.

Yes, HDX900 and ESPN is mostly tape, unless is something primarily for their web site then we also add either the nano or lately we've been using the pix240 a lot.
