Was there a county fair going on there? Why were there so many people? A guy I used to work with who is at KSDK now was in the same situation about a month ago. Video is probably still up on their page. I haven't spent much time in Louisville, but it certainly seems like there are neighborhoods you don't go to.

There were a ton of people around because there was a shooting at the same spot 90 minutes earlier that police were investigating and the tv stations were filming. One of the shot individuals from the first incident got in a car and drove to another scene as well. So it was 2 shootings and three scenes. 6 people shot, 3 dead. One of the 6 shot was a female that police shot after she started shooting at that same scene (90 min after the original). Make sense?

At my station I would have been yelled at for not starting with night video. Seriously.

This is why you always have a tape/disk/card in the camera, and a good brick.
And it also drives home the point that even with all the cops around, you're not necessarily safe, and you shouldn't take anything for granted. The only time I've been seriously threatened, by a guy wielding a knife, was in broad daylight, at a shooting scene, with a dozen cops standing there.

I've started to run my camera in cache mode at any time I think there is the possibility of some weirdness going on. It gives me 15 seconds of pre-record. Also useful for sports recording.
