![]() http://bop.nppa.org/2012/tv_news_vid...ex.php?cat=TPY Nathan Thompson from Nashville's WTVF-TV has some excellent work which is worth taking a look at. The NPPA chose well this year.

Fortunately and unfortunately .
Fortunately : there still still some great news editors still left who are carrying on the creative editing process from the 'good ole days ' of match cutting ,continuity , etc ,etc. Unfortunate with the invention of NLE editing systems that come with a barrage of ' special effects' there are many who are covering up bad shooting by using the cosmetology of the special effects. Nice to see that they are still some great editors and shooters are still using the "cut " as one of the nost poewerful editng transitions around. |

I wish I could do work like that. I know I have the abilities, but when you turn four pkg's in a day, sometimes on two or three different topics, my reporter and I don't have the time to do that quality work.
If I spend five or ten minutes lighting, that's five or ten minutes less I have to edit. It's quantity not quality. Four pkg's, each with a vosot. Stand up teases, look lives and live shots, we don't even have time to take our 30 minute break. Then the days is done. Fifteen years ago, before I had a noon, 4pm, 5pm and 6pm newscast; I could get more than 15-20 minutes to edit. But I do what the bosses want. Fill the slot and not be late. Congrats to the winners. I'm not bitter, and I'm happy to have my job. Thus I give them exactly what they want and don't complain too loudly. Just turnin' n' burnin' |
