Today I....

Tonight I...

6pm straight live, on an unresponsive baby found in an apartment, because we didn't know about it untill we saw it on the other 2 stations at 5pm.

11pm live VO/SOT, because the cops weren't investigating, because it was said to be accidental.

Thunderbirds arriving for a local airshow. Great interview with the "first" female pilot. Nothing like an F-16 buzzing your head!

...got a stomach ache... and I shot a dog that tried to squeeze out 'da window through some Burglar Bars and ended up stuck for 3 or 4 hours 'till the family came home and called the local Fire Department...Poor thing's back legs were asleep and it dragged it's butt across the lawn after it was freed... Later on some transient decided to cross 4 lanes of freeway traffic on foot and got literally torn apart... Maybe suicide, maybe drunk, maybe just his time but as I watched all the other camera folks out there shooting the scene from every angle and even watched one guy try to get SOT from the family that hit the dude in their minivan (He was escorted away), I realized I am starting to get tired of it all...Now I'm drinking a 7up and trying to burp off my heartburn...sorry.

Today I had to shoot and write a package on this voters referendum concering a property tax hike in a nearby county. The two guys I interviewed SUUUUUCKED. Constantly looking at their notes, constantly starting over on their lame, pre-written responses, and constantly pushing me around.

Hey guys, you've had months and months to get our viewers ready for this referendum...people aren't going to magically understand your voting agenda based on a minute and a half pkg. with the May Primaries only two days away. Definately not a great story. I chalk that one up to my erratic News Director who will send me out on the wildest of goose-chases without setting me up for the story at all. "Here's his number, but I couldn't really understand what he was talking about because there was too much tractor-noise in the background....just go up there and let him speak his mind. Sorry I didn't tell you more about this on Wednesday"

Shot my 2-millionth gas price story, went to a mandatory staff meeting (the station might be sold again), up-linked some video to ABC, and did a live shot at the beach.

got stung by a bee... Some guys bought a scrapyard a month ago and were revamping it today (why over Memorial Day weekend?)... The guys saw six 15x15 ft wood containers that seemed to be kinda rotting...so they picked one up with a forklift and were promptly attacked by 1000's of pissed off bees...turns out 4 of 6 containers had multiple hives/honeycombs inside... Probably over 1 million bugs... And wow were they mad...I got hit by one...it didn't land on me and sting...it flew into me like a car hitting a building... I got some good shots of folks running around with bees chasing them tho...my ear lobe is throbbing...

Went to the lake...but not for fun. They were searching for a missing swimmer. He's probably at the bottom of the lake. Didn't even get my free Memorial weekend boat ride that I always try to get when working :(

went to a domestic situation where a guy chased his ex-wife and kids out of the house with a pick axe and a can of gas, and then threatened to burn down the house after being evicted.

I spent a huge chunk of the morning falling asleep in an edit bay.

Gawd, mornings are a drag when the reporter has to co-anchor, and there's no spot news.

Went to a town where a guy murdered some one a week ago and then left on foot (we have been following this story very close). Actually talked to the dad of the guy and then he told us he might be in another town and went there to get reaction from the community because the state police would not talk with us. Then as we are just driving around getting shots in the middle of no where we find the sheriff and stop and talk with him and find out that they are giving up the search because they have been searching for him for a week. Changed the whole story from the community response to the fact that they are stopping the search on foot. It was great.

today I..

Shot for our OTHER news show, the indiginous language news, story on bus driver getting hunks of concrete thrown at them from motorway overbridges. Scary stuff. BUT! Talent was so bad at HIS OWN language the reporter wrote down what she wanted the bus driver to say and held it up next to my lens! Took 42 mins of tape and bus driving around for hours to make up a 1'30'' track, ARGH!
