Macro focus pull

I saw a discussion of focus pulling in the "depth of field" discussion.

The first trick I teach all my new ENG Photographers is how to do a macro ring focus pull. Focus on your far object then pull the macro ring until your close object comes into focus. Then just snap your macro back into it's starting place at any desirable speed. It's a perfect focus pull every time with no breathing of the frame edges! It works in reverse too.

Great technique for live shots where the reporter wants to point out something behind them.

Focus on distant object....reframe on reporter and focus with macro. As reporter references object, zoom and snap the macro and you have your perefct focus. Roll front focus as you come back to reporter. Nice and clean.
