What's the 1st question you ask in an interview? Interviewing a new hire, of course.

Why do you want to be in news? But, that is only for applicants with NO experience.

What is your strongest quality? That is for applicants with experience.

If I'm hiring a newbie, I describe the job first, long days, overtime, deadlines, ect.. then I ask,
"So how do you handle stressfull situations?"

If I'm hiring someone expereinced, I ask, "Why are you looking for a job here?"

If it's someone who has been out of the biz
"Why are you getting back into the news business?"

Newbie?
I send them down to the hardware store for relative bearing greese and a box of color bars.

Seriously, ask them "why? news..." I leave a lot of empty space in my questions, most people will hate that silence and add stuff they never expected to say.

I ask about failures, recoveries, people skills, etc.
