I've been all dionic (mostly 90's) for the last few years and now they're pooping out one by one. I have a couple of the large 160's and love 'em...but I don't like flying with them these days.

I'm thinking about going NiMh, but hate the extra weight.

What are you all doing? And where do you go for good prices?

Check out www.batteries4broadcast.com we've been using them for over a year. Good prices and good service.

I guess what I was asking was this...are people abandoning Lithium Ion because of travel restrictions? Has anyone out there used Pags or any other non A/B batteries?

I have decided to spilt my battery pkg. 4 LiIons as carry-on between me & sound op.
4 Hytrons (NiMH) as packable in baggage. It just means packing an extra charger along. Most TSA inspectors still have no clue as to what a camera battery even is, but we follow the new rules regardless.

Do a search for Anton bauer on ebay and you find a company out of California that rebuilds hytrons for sure, i think they also rebuild dionics. I haven't used them but there is a San Diego station that uses them. Dionic 160 rebuild 299.00

But they're still Lithium Ion batteries. The problem is finding and using non-lithium ion batteries.

We're all in a bind here. dinosaur's solution is similar to mine. If you ask the rental houses what they have gone to, it's Hytrons.

I'll probably end up doing the same...just using Hytrons for travel.
But dang, they're heavy!

I'm thinking about having the 90's rebuilt...they're nice and light for shorter jobs.

Thanks-

Fletcher Chicago sent all their lithium ion batteries back after the fire incident detailed here a few months ago.
An associate of mine with a varicam who travels a lot just bought all new batteries. 160wh's. Not lithium ion.
It is being done.

We use IDX E-10's. Our crews have been flying with them and have had no problems yet. Just follow the rules TSA provides and you should have no problems.

BTW, the Li-Ion "Fire" that keeps getting mentioned occured with a TOTALLY different type of battery than the ones used to power ENG cameras. I saw the damaged batteries myself at Fletcher and they are each the size of a shoebox. Apples and Oranges.

I get my old Anton Bauer batteries rebuilt by a company in TN for about $150.00
