Anyone watching live coverage on websites in Las Vegas concerning the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino fire? I have to say they've been doing a good job from what I've been watching. I'd rank them: 1. KLAS 2. KTNV 2. (tie) KVVU and last (not even a rank) KVBC, they don't even have live pics.... just a cut-in from earlier when the fire broke out and a very poor break-in at that. poor anchor didn't really know much about previous fires at hotels but tried to say something about fires happening in Vegas before... it was bad. Overall, though, good job everybody in Vegas on a breaking story and having live on the web immediately. that's what the folks at work want... to be able to sit at pc and see what's going on. any other thoughts on the coverage out there?

I haven't been watching any of the local stuff online, just CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. Having compared the national coverage to local coverage of the same event at the same time in the past, I guarentee any of the local stations had better coverage. I wonder if the network talent know just how stupid they sound when they try to act like they know what they're talking about when its clear they don't???

Logistically...doing anything from the Strip is very hard (private property, traffic, tall buildings....yada, yada, yada).....but we at KTNV have some experienced photogs who know where to go and how to get there and work around some tough conditions. I applaud all my fellow co-workers for the job they're doing...gonna go...doing cut-ins for sister stations and CNN.

The locals had far better coverage and were often correcting if not bemoaning the sloppy network coverage. Several times local anchors were commenting on how the networks (FOX in particular) were simply reporting unconfirmed rumors.

However, the KLAS female co-anchor was clearly not briefed before she joined their male anchor late in the coverage. He was very good, on top of everything while she made several comments that were all but laughable. Her biggest problem is that she couldn't tell the difference between what was live and what wasn't. Their first "eyewitness" live interview was a nutjob. He had a red scooter he named "Ruby" and referred to "her" frequently in the first person. A risky choice at best.

KLAS is a top run station....its suprising to hear their anchor wasn't up to speed. I kinda wish I could have seen what the others had...but it was busy and hard to concentrate on my own stuff....

Just one of a long list of reasons why nobody should EVER watch cable news.

I saw some backhaul coverage of KVBC while at work. I saw a Asian woman reporter (I googled - her name is Marie Mortera) interview a woman who was supposed to go to work at the casino later in the day. All I can say is... blah. The woman was a horrible choice for a MOS. But, considering the circumstances, you'll probably take what you can get. Otherwise, I didn't get to see any other coverage.
