I am heading down for the Super Bowl on Monday. I need to shoot some b-roll for the week. I need a good place to shoot some desert scenery, I.E. cactus, palm trees, desert plants. I also need a good place to shoot some sky line video of town down. And if there is any other visual things to shoot regarding the super bowl. Any and all help would be great

THANKS!!!

I don't work in Phoenix anymore but I used to.

For a great skyline shot head to Camelback road and 56 street (not to be confused with 56th Avenue which will put you in Glendale). If you're in downtown Phoenix go North to Camelback and hang a right (East). You'll be on Camelback for a while. When you get to 56th street, hang a left and go North (you will be climbing a hill in your car). It will turn into Valle Vista. Follow it around until you see the Phoenix skyline on the left. At the end of the block you can get a clear shot between a palm tree and a house.

As for cactus, there are some on Camelback where you will be getting your skyline shots from but there are a lot of houses up there. For more nature and less development, go to Papago Park which is really close to where your skyline shots will be. Papago park is in the city but it will save you from having to drive beyond the sprawl of the valley. To get there from your skyline shot, go back down the hill to 56th street. Stay on 56th street and head South to Thomas road (approx 1-2 miles). At Thomas hang a left (East) and go to 64th street. At 64th Street, hang a right and go South past McDowell to gavin Parkway. After you pass McDowell, start looking on the left for a small drive/parking lot. Pull into there and park. You'll get lots of cacti and the beautiful red rocks of Papago park. There's a 3 mile jogging loop there but it wont be in your vid if you don't shoot it (easy to avoid).

If you want more nature you can make your way to the Dreamy Draw park area which is at the 51 and Northern area. It's not as easy as Papago Park because you have to hike in a little to get the goods but it's a nice park within the city. I used to mountain bike there.

Another good vista is to take Central from downtown Phoenix all the way South which will take you up South Mountain. It's a pretty high and good vantage point for Phoenix city shots.

There are good opportunities for sunsets with Tempe town lake and joggers around it in the evenings. Just make your way to Mill Ave off the 202. Make your way to the South Side of Tempe Town lake and your shot from there looking towards North and West will give you joggers, sunset, and Phoenix skyline in silhouette.

If you have time, my favorite place to eat in Phoenix is the Coronado Cafe on 7th Ave just North of McDowell on the East side of the road. They do lunch and dinner.
Happy hunting.

Cactus? What do you think this is, a DESERT out here? Just kidding, the other guy's right, Papago Park is the perfect place to get shots that look like you're out in the desert, even though you're in the midst of all the urban sprawl. South Mountain Park is also good for desert/nature/wildlife shots. You might even see coyotes there (the animal, not the people who smuggle illegals.)

Unfortunately, the Cardinals obviously decided to build their new stadium in Glendale because it had lots of open land to build on, NOT because it was close to anything scenic.

Yea I was out there for the BCS game last year and the stadium is out in the middle of no-mans-land. We are staying at one of the media hotles. The double tree near the airport, It should be a very fun but long week. I'm just glad im paid by the hour :)
