Anyone have any details on this....kinda funny, weird.

DALLAS, TX. (AP) - A Dallas-Fort Worth TV reporter working on a story about a crime victim -- became one herself.

Someone broke into a KXAS news truck and stole her purse, a makeup bag and electronic equipment while reporter Lindsay Wilcox and a videographer interviewed a robbery victim.

Wilcox was in the Dallas woman's home Sunday, interviewing a robbery victim about how she refused to hand over a purse to a man holding her at gunpoint. Instead of cooperating, 52-year-old Penny Liland began screaming. The gunman fled.

When Wilcox returned to the news truck, she saw someone had smashed through a side window and stolen the items. Liland let Wilcox back inside -- so she could cancel her swiped credit cards.

A KXAS official says it's not uncommon for thieves to target TV news trucks.

Man that stinks. In dayton I caught a guy trying to break into my live truck with rake. And the about a year a go I caught a kid trying to break into my un-marked news unit to steal my police scanner.

Someone broke into a KXAS news truck and stole ... electronic equipment .

Us photogs are gear nuts, can someone let us know what type of "electronic equipment" was yanked?

I love the last line... Right now our cars and trucks are not marked... I'll make sure to pass this on so maybe we can keep it that way!

From the Dallas Morning News

"Wilcox's purse and makeup bag, a DVD player, a GPS navigation system, a laptop, and a cell phone were taken."

What's the DVD player for? The photog too lazy to read a book?

............When Wilcox returned to the news truck..............

Does the photog that was with Ms. Wilcox have a fcuking name? Or is this just another case of "__________, reporter and an un-named technician"?

Gawdammit, I hate that more than anything.... The reporter gets mentioned by name TWICE, but I quess we're just supposed to assume the photog didn't even have a name......

In my market just recently 2 of the big 3 went un-marked. I'm so glad we did.

How much is free advertising worth to the station? If it's more than $60,000 (about the cost of one camera and/or camera and gear) then leave the trucks marked, if not maybe it's time to buy some bill-boards that aren't on wheels.

That's one of the many great things about this country, my friend. Even though you despise how I say something, I can still say it. Of course, this won't last forever....

Simmer down.

If the photog had his purse stolen, or anything of value, his name would have been mentioned. Otherwise, another name is just clutter in the story. Who cares what the photogs name was? He is just a minor player in the crime drama.

Could not the DVD player, GPS navigation system, laptop, and possibly the cell phone been the photogs? I would think that would make him the major player!

By the way the article is written you would think that she was the only person driving the truck and was there to do the stroy by herself. It should have said something along the lines of "A KXAS news crew was...". I can certainly understand trying to tie the two crime points together but the writer needed to do a little better job of it.

Oh, good Lord, don't we have an inferiority complex. Personally, I would have been very happy my name was left out of a crime story. I don't need that kind of recognition.

I recall about 13 yrs ago a photog from the same station, KXAS (I don't remember her name, Linda something, I think), was the victim of a smash-n-grab incident while she was inside of a Wendy's or something like that.

The great Linda Angelle is the photographer who lost her Beta rig in that smash-and-grab. I believe Linda was on her way back from a story about the sisters at an Arlington convent. Someone broke into her marked news unit to grab the camera. This was all back in the day when camera vaults were too expensive but replacing US$65k Betacams wasn't. Love that corporate finance logic... but I digress again.

The nuns prayed for the recovery of Linda's camera and a few months later a porn "actor" (maybe Richard Hammer?) showed up at Bexel in Burbank looking to sell three Betacams for some ridiculously low amount. I think the rentals manager suspected the cameras had been nicked so he told the guy that Bexel would cut a check for the cameras but it would take about an hour. The rental manager checked the camera S/Ns against Sony's stolen equipment database, found they had been stolen and called the Burbank PD. An hour later the guy returned to pick-up his check and got a ride to the cop shop instead.

Call it cosmic justice or karma but Linda got her camera back. I think "Richard Hammer" pleaded guilty to some sort of felony charge. I can't remember if there was any jail time or restitution.

I had an iPod stolen out of my live truck as I was running cables once. One minute its sitting in between the seats. Run some cables into the building, come back out and boom! The iPod is gone!

Lesson learned. If I cant see the truck, lock it. Its a pain, but saves filing a police report as you run your shot. Plus going thru insurance to replace the stolen item.

But that sucks for Dallas.
