Photojournalist saves puppy trapped in a hole when animal control couldn't. Local TV news finally proves itself useful. (Fark.com headline)

I knew there was a reason I didn't watch the local news anymore ( I live in Grand Rapids). Just kidding! Congrats to Bilal for knowing when to put his camera down and help out.

Funny, thing like that are fate. He should put in to keep the pup. I covered a barn fire Christmas Day 2005 and the only survivors were a mother farm cat and one of her kittens. The poor thing had singed ears but otherwise was OK. The barn owners didn't have a barn anymore to keep them in so I took him home. Woke my wife at 11:30 at night to show her the little belated smoke saturated christmas present I had for her.

I found my cat while waiting to do a liveshot.
She was starving and covered in fleas. The most pitiful sight I think I'd ever seen. I took her home, cleaned her up, fed her, wormed her, nursed her back to health and now she's the most loyal animal I've ever known.
Good for that photog.

Its funny...whenever a photog makes it into the story...its always used for the payoff at the end and its always something good we do!

I wasn't surprised when I saw this piece. I worked with Bilal when he was just starting out. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met and a damn good photog.

Why don't you ever hear about a photog saving a stripper? I am sure it has happened but the stupid media never tells the people about those good human interest stories.
Just kidding...Great story, glad to hear about one of our own going above and beyond to help someone or something.

Maybe not a stripper but when I was working in London there was a story about how a cameraman and Ginger Spice saved each other. Apparently they were just good friends and that friendship had helped get them both through.
He was paid $20,000 by a tabloid paper for his story “I didn’t sleep with a Spice Girl.”
I can’t help thinking that there are quite a few famous people I’ve never slept with, I wonder if anyone would pay me for that?

Strippers are just like puppies...Always in a bad situation and looking for some one to take them in. The only problem they cost a bunch more than a puppy. By the way, Latin Lens how much is a lap dance in Vegas these days?

1) I have met Bilal a couple of times when I was working in Lansing. He is a great guy!
2) Bilal works with my favorite reporter ever, Ms. Emily Zangaro!
3) I know Ionia quite well, and know the animal control even better. I did a wonderful story once with Ms. Zangaro involving those wonderful animal control folks.
4) We had a puppy in a drainage pipe in our station parking lot several weeks ago. Using a light kit at one end of the pipe, we (Securit and I) lured the puppy out. We spent over an hour trying to catch it, only to have it nip me while in my hands, and escape into the think NC woods. Poor thing.
5) I love dachshunds. Well done Bilal well done.!
