I notice that a lot of their episodes seem to have a uniform camera look, particuarly the more recent ones. Do they have a specific camera setup or camera requirement?

I have shot a few episodes of that. A while back I got a call from Hearst Ent./Actuality Prod. saying they had gone Varicam.

They switched to Varicam from Betacam in early 2006; they will now also accept HDX900. Both are set to 30P. From what I have experienced, all HD content for History channel is similar.
