Stolen Equipment

I heard that the ABC station from Philly had their sat truck vandalized while covering the Eagles-Jets game up in North Jersey. Losing $200K-300K worth of equipment from the truck as well. Anyone know the details?

"WPVI's satellite van was broken into, and rack-mounted gear stolen last night (10/13/2007) at the Sheraton Secaucus in the Meadowlands Complex."

If your truck is going to be parked out in the open in an insecure area, it's worth the $200 bucks to get a security guard for the night - or at least a car alarm system.

They're local's. They're lucky they had a truck, much less anything to protect it with. But seriously, "protection" doesn't always mean it will be protected. A few years ago, someone walked right out of the TV compound at the NASCAR race in CA with two brand new Digi Beta's and in Vegas, a friend had the window smashed on his rental and his VariCam stolen out of the GUARDED TV compound. Hell, my unmarked, alarmed truck was completely stolen out of a gated hotel lot last year. If the low life's want it bad enough, not much is gonna stop 'em, short of killing them on sight... Didn't they used to hang horse thieves?

An Update from the SNG Forum:

Apparently this theft was completely random. Some drunken drug fueled guy broke into the van, stole things that varied from an encoder to some speakers, then stole a car from the same lot; got into a chase and was apprehended.

I beleive that the cops are in the process of recovering the gear.
