Details are sketchy at this moment... but here's what we can tell you.

Sources say that b-roll.net will allegedly begin an exciting video contest in the near future. More details to follow...

In the meantime, what would you NAME an award for TV Photography? There are Emmys, Oscars, Tellys... what should a b-roll.net contest be called?

There need not be any reference to me in the award title, but I do think there would be some Junior High giggles as the MC announced the "Little Johnson" awards just before the announcement of the "Big Johnson" prize!

Am I having deja-vu? I could of sworn I've seen these posts awhile back, and yet the whole thread is labeled with today's date.

Must be some sort of Halloween stunt. :)

The "Lenslinger Award" should be for outstanding writing. I'm not saying his shooting is bad, but that guy can write.

Frankly...I think the award should show some respect and honor to the person who gave birth to this great site.

And what's wrong with a little photog humor and grins with the name. They didn't start out calling them the "Oscars" but because it was kind of an inside joke at the time for that craft, the name stuck and now carries the world renowned honor and recognition it deserves.

OK...some other name? It's hard to beat the 'Big Johnson"...so to speak...but other consideration could be given to...

or maybe just call them the "Kevies". ;)

I'm surprised nobody has suggested this already...

Although their role has diminished somewhat, this site was once represented quite effectively by a set of lovely and talented models. They're all quite memorable, but I think the original deserves special attention. Thus I humbly suggest that the award be named in honor of the very first B-Roll Girl:

Kimberlea

The Academies have their Oscars and Emmies. Stage productions have the Tonies. Wouldn't you love to be able to say you won a Kimberlea for best feature or best spot news?

However, I do believe that credit should be give where credit is due and I think that the categories can be broken down to honor those who have made this board what it is. I mean overall wont the awards mean most to those that troll here? The big daddy of awards should be "Kevin" related Johnson or not we would all love the double meaning. And I agree the writing should go to Lenslinger, and the best lighting go to Nino and maybe the best stringer to Ivan or Terry ( make the statue a gun) or even Conduit. There are many different opportunities that can be used so i dont think that one has to be the end all of end all.
just my .02

P.S. a special award should go to those who have to buy the "Big Johnson" award at the local XXX store.
I also believe that many people would change their sig out to say they are the receipient of the 2007 3rd quarter Big Johnson etc.

While talk is about awards can we have a live truck award called the sparkies.
An award for crabby female jouralists called the Broken Compact.
For male Journalists the reflected lens or Vanity mirror awards.
The slack tape awards for editing and the choke on a sandwhich award for news directors.

Just a few off the top of my head:

Call the competition "The Forum Awards" since that is what makes this site what it is (all the interaction on these message boards.)

B-roll's equivalent of POY, should you decide to award one, could be "The Golden Shoulder" Award.

As for the actual individual awards..."The Rolly" certainly seems to be a can't miss...but how bout something like "The Phojo." This year's "Phojo" goes to...

I dunno, man. I don't think there's anything clever about, "This message is hidden because Mighty Dyckerson is on your ignore list."

Seems repetitive!
