i'm putting a DSR1 on my D50 for an upcoming shoot at the request of the client.

- can anyone point me to a site where i can download the manual for the DSR1?

- they want DVCAM - does that mean i have to roll DVCAM tape or will it lay down DVCAM on to mini-dv tapes?

thanks!

It will record to mini-dv, but for DVCAM, the tape runs faster so a 60 minute tape only lasts around 43 minutes. The faster tape speed guards against data loss by recording a wider track pitch.

Be careful with those pins on the connector between the camera head & back. I bent one many years ago and was very careful putting them together.

Hi Brian,

I couldn't find a manual for it. But I bet it is the same manual for the DSR-300/400/500 DVCam Cameras....But here is my cool site for DVCam Products:

http://www.sony.ca/dvcam/manuals.htm

Remember to use the digital connector. You can spin the connector on the front of the DSR-1 so that it use the digital connector on the D-50, instead of the analog one.

Here is the manual-> http://www.provisiontv.com/dsr-1manual.pdf Have a head cleaner and stick to Sony tapes. Different brands have different lubricants and when mixed together it forms a gunk that clogs your heads easily.

Man, I did a quick search and didn't get a hit....You are the man.....
I always use DVCam tapes....I won't run mini-DV tapes

I agree. Go with DVCAM tapes. I have had the head clog issue using Mini's. It's not fun.

Actually you don't have to use DVCAM tapes you just need to stick with one brand. The 3$ Sony Premium tapes work fine in DVCAM mode for 1-3 runs without any dropout. If you are in a news environment I might suggest the DVCAM grade tapes for multiple runs. Don't be fooled! Alot of manufacturers sell the same grade tape under different labels and prices.
