I am looking into certification to become an AVID newscutter instructor. I have found the on-line courses offered by AVID on their web site.

I am wondering which courses are necessary to become an instructor. Do I need to be a certified AVID user before I apply for instructor training? Does AVID hire most graduates from the instructor program?

I have edited on AVID newscutters for thirteen years. I have taught many photographers and editor to use the newscutters, but never in a formal class environment.

Off the top of my head.....I think you may have to take a number of classes to Certified. When I took some training when Avid did offer training classes, you had to able to also troubleshoot problems. But it might had changed. If you are FCP Certified, you are a top dog. I heard that Apple only gives you once chance to pass the test. You need to get 90% correct.

Hmm I'd talk to Avid, as they would be the most informed on the subject.
The Avid guys I have known have alll been well taken care of and happy btw- and I have known many.

Avid needs news photographers/editors to train on Newscutter. When we got the system, we got some dufus who has never worked in a newsroom and didn't understand the news workflow.

He was showing us how to blur images and do motion effects on the first day, but never showed us how to capture video or set up workflow for news.

I had to learn then my company started sending me to other stations within our group to teach the system afte the Avid guy left and left everyone confused.
