After a few hours of failed story ideas this morning, I came up with this. Fun and simple. What do you think...?

By the way, what about a "critique" link on b-roll? Good idea?

That was a cool fun little story......what made that piece was the people you talked to and obviously the reporter has a personality.

Thanks, LL. I wish I had given it a little more breathing room in the edits, but it was a fun, easy 20 minute shoot. I was hoping that someone else might try it this weekend, as a nat piece, and post it here.

This story and the other you linked us to recently were both very heavy on reporter face time. Is it coincidence, or is that how they roll there?
As an idea and something to throw down in 20 minutes when all else fails, nice job. You got a good cross-section of people and you got good sound. I can't say it was overly creative shooting, but it was clean and got the job done.
I do like your idea of creating a forum where we could have threads to put our work out there to be shared either for ideas to improve or ones we simply felt good about and wanted some more folks to see it.

Well, we're taking baby steps here, I think. I shot three news related features this week. That's HUGE for this station. I'd say that's a high average for just about any photojournalist or station. Any story where no one dies or ends up in jail is a wonderful thing, in my opinion.
As far as face time... not really. Top 100 was just done that way because Adam made it work better, I think. I don't know, everyone has a different opinion on how things should be done. Typically, I like the story to focus on the subject and not the reporter. I'm sure most of us feel that way.
Also, it was shot with the wide-eye for that "feature feel". As a rule, I never typically shoot talent with a wide-eye. I tried it here and I thought it worked. Others may not think so, but that's why I asked, I guess.
I sent Kevin an e-mail about the critique thing, so we'll see. I'd encourage anyone else who would like to see a "critique" section to do the same. I think its a good idea to stay sharp. I think its okay to feel good about a story for a bit. Then, have someone else critique it, for good and/or bad. Its helps to remember that we're only as good a our next story!
