I am looking for some good rain gear. Not too $$$
What do you have and where did you get it?

Hefty trash bag. No seriously - I know a guy and that's all he ever uses. Always works, if lost or damaged, easily replacable and cheap!

For you or your camera?

I've bought Stern's from Wal-Mart in the past and I've been very pleased with it. Make sure you buy the thicker, nicer raingear, not the cheap vinyl looking stuff.

Columbia makes some good stuff that's not that expensive. A passable pair of boots (waders) shouldn't cost you more than $20 at an outdoors store or discount store.

You'll have to search their website for PR info, but twice a year they let us sign up for a "professionals only" sale that is basically 40-60% off anything in the catalog they send you (think it's the same one as the public?)

I shot a football game last fall in a driving hard rain. I wore an Army Surplus ECWCS Gortex Coat and Pants. I could not believe how dry I stayed. You can find them new for a very reasonable price. The downside.....Camo.

I got a pair of waterproof pants a couple years ago at a ski store that was having a closeout sale for $10. Found a nice waterproof lightweight Columbia jacket on sale at Dick's for $40. Land's End has nice waterproof boots for around $40-50. If you look around and find some good sales, you can get some really nice rain gear for not too much dough.

You can also check REI line of rain gear.....The best is still Gore-Tex
Keeps you dry and don't sweat in it.

There is some incredibly light-weight stuff out there that I use from time to time...It is marketed as Frog Togs (sometimes called Dri-Ducks)...

Feels like fabric, breathes like no other...

Downsides? It can be expensive, and the cheaper versions are somewhat thin and rip...I have gaff tape all over mine, but they is still keep me dry....

A reporter loaned me his rain gear. A PVC Polyester Jacket and pants/suspenders. I got myself a pair for 15 bucks at Home Depot.

Commercial Polyester PVC Jacket and Pants from BOSS at HD.
