Hey Everyone,

I was just talking with a few of the guys. They were all telling about awards they won, but the station did not put their name on the award. With the recent award season ending, I was wondering who won what and didn't receive credit for it. My most recent was in Jackson, MS Best Feature Story. It had the reporter's name, and STAFF photographer. This will be fun. I'm looking forward to
hearing your stories :)

Doesn't suprise me. I found out after I left my old station that they had submitted a story me and a reporter did on Hurricane Katrina. I wasn't invited to the cermony nor did I receive a copy of the award (it was just a piece of paper, AP.)

STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER- Thats funny. I wonder if they ever issued an award for photography that gave the reporters name as STAFF REPORTER? We are pretty much interchangable robots to management.

Well, typically Emmys don't have ANYTHING on them when you walk up to the stage to pick it up - it's just a bare statue. They send you an engraved plate a few weeks later that you stick on the front of it.

Maybe it'll come in a few weeks?

For an emmy once we busted our asses for three months to make a killer story... shooters and editor as well. The 'talent' showed up for one day of shooting and one half day to read the copy... I had written. When he got the Emmy I went to the dinner - no crew, no editor invited. The 'talent' got the award. He turned to the audience and said, "I want to thank all the people who helped on this". Emmys mean nothing... but still....

Barf....

Yeah, when I worked in Louisiana, I won a handful of AP's at ktBS. Never received anything they sent me, much less got to actually go to the ceremony! Have to believe that my psyco ND saw to it that I never saw them. She hated that I came to work every day, did a good job, and had an opinion. Crazy B...

But, she's gone now. More importantly, I'm gone now.

the special projects ep was in charge of selecting what pkgs were to be entered. i gave him my nat sound pkg, he turned it down. i submitted it myself, and won an emmy. never heard a word from management about it. felt great though. and i did get my engraved plate on it. sweet.

I don't enter contests anymore. I won an AP 1st place for non-spot news photography in 2006 and the nice plaque on the wall in the stations says "1st Place, Non-Spot News Photography - KOKH TV. No mention of who won it. Haven't entered a contest since.
Still waiting for our NPPA memberships to be approved so I can start entering the quarterly clip contests.
Emmy entries are due in by June 1st and, although I've done a story that has a chance, I'm not entering. Those awards are more for the stations rather than the people that produce the work.

My cousin is a shooter and won a British Design Award for cinematography. They called him and asked if he wanted a certificate or statuette. He said 'statuette' of course and they informed him that he would have to pay _them_ $300(!) before they would send it but they would mail him the certificate for free. He took the paper and declined the hardware.

Sheesh :D
