Michael Rosenblum lofted Jamal Albarghouti on a pillar as the future of TV News. In my phone/email interview with him he was much more pragmatic.

Just to keep things in perspective, I pointed to Jamal's transmission as an example of how fast the technology is moving - much as I pointed out that Miles O'Brien from CNN had done a live interconnect with his kids using a laptop and the web - no truck, etc... I am not a fan of replacing professional journalists with citizen journos. I am a fan of a spectrum starting with anyone with a camera and a story to tell all the way up to the top of the heap. This is pretty much how print works today and the point of the exercise was that dropping the cost of the gear also lowers the barrier to access. Not a bad thing.

I was there and saw that. Yes he was able to do it, but it looked like crap. I would not want to see that on a newscast.

Maybe once a webcam can deliver real-time quality footage with a toplight (as it was inside), but not what we have now.

I agree. For the moment. But you know this stuff only gets better and cheaper, so you look at that online interconnect and you can see very clearly what is coming. I for one would not want to be in the sat truck business. Would you?

I don't know how your business is Warren, but I, for one, am not complaining! :)

Hey, Mike! Would you mind explaining why you accused me (as well as a random host of others) of being anti-semetic?

Perhaps. Someday maybe you'll be able to do a live HD feed anywhere in the world with just your laptop or some other small device. No need for an entire truck.
